Horicon Living History Days 2017
Good morning and welcome back to Attic Treasures Basketry. I had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and I hope that you did as well. After church, we had a wonderful cookout with family. It was a gorgeous day to be outside and enjoy some sunshine! Later we were treated to a late dinner out my one of our daughters and her boyfriend. I really felt honored!
On Friday and Saturday I had the privilege of sharing my skills with the community at Horicon Living History Days at River Bend Park in Horicon, Wisconsin. I've been weaving at this event for several years and always have a great time. Fridays are open to schools so that the children have an opportunity to learn from all the crafts people and re-en-actors. In addition to weaving there are wool spinners, rope makers, blacksmiths and more.
Students that stopped by my station had the opportunity to help weave rows on some mini baskets that I set up earlier in the morning. I enjoy being able to provide a hands on project and answer questions about basket weaving
On Saturday I had a few more children stop by with parents and also worked on a large market basket as I visited with the folks touring the grounds. I have to finish the rims on most of these projects, but here is a sample of our work from the two days.
I couldn't thank my sweet hubby enough for all the hard work helping me to get ready for this event. Also the communities and the committees that host these events put a ton of work into them. Please support these events when they come to your community because they really do bring people in, build business and keep small town America a great place to visit. Time permitting I take requests for demonstrations at other events. Please use the contact form below.
Our next event will be South & Main in Dalton on June 10th. We'll have baskets for sale along with some other neat handmade items. I have a couple of nice sets of nesting baskets that are great for filling with gifts for weddings or bridal showers. There are also some patriotic theme baskets I"m sure you'll love. Visit us on Facebook for more information about this event.
