My sweet husband teases me about this project, "You have a hole in the bottom of your basket mam."
And indeed it does have a hole.. in the bottom and in the top. I have an old jean leg that I made into a bag catcher a long time ago. Now I've moved up to something a little fancier.
I wove this over the top of a large oatmeal container and tapered it near the bottom. I added some Cherokee Wheels for a little decoration. The leather handle tops it off for hanging in my pantry. Look for these in the shop soon. Maybe even in time for Christmas.
Today I worked on weaving up my example of the Mitten Basket that I plan on teaching to a homeschool group over the next couple of weeks. This is an easy little project that I did a couple years ago and painted a leather snowman medallion to go with it. I'm looking forward to working with the kids on this project. The basic instructions can be found HERE and will be real familiar to those who already know how to weave. And don't you just love the beautiful leather handle? This basket is also available in my Etsy shop.
